MTH800 Erased Flash
Hi to all.
I am IW3IPS from Italy. In a ham radio flea market I have bought 3 MTH800 with accessories for few bucks, to explore and experiment this network.
The radios works in a dismissed TMO Network and in DMO mode without problem.
Doing some test with CPS Plus 7.8 I have erased the flash of one of them... now it can not turns on (black screen) but in 1 + 9 + power button works.
How can I recover that radio? The other ones works. Is it possible to dump the memory or firmware and restore the bricked one?
Thanks for you help!

Re: MTH800 Erased Flash
Hi there,
not wery good news for you:
You need to put radio into flash mode with the geniuine FLN9636 cable (has "data/flash" switch) and re-flash it.
The cable with the switch will wake up the bootloader in the radio and let it be flashed and programmed.
Normal programming cable (RS232 or USB) won't work.
Please do not erase your radio terminals.

Re: MTH800 Erased Flash
Yes, a cable that can write to flash memory is a must, but you can also make your own by going through the FT232.
Once you have the cable, you can use the "Flash Report" and "Write Flash lmage" functions under the LAB menu in the CPS PLUS Depot version to read the entire flash memory of a working radio and write the entire flash memory to a radio that is not turning on.

Re: MTH800 Erased Flash
First and foremost you wil need the flashcable that my good friend Gabor suggested, FLN9636. Not easy task as this is discontinued product and while it was available costed north of 150 EUR.
Then, your best bet woud be to use special third party written software called "MT Flasher" and flash radio with full flash dump from other radio.

Hi and first of all thanks you all for fast reply!
Do you have the schema of the cable? I have several rs232 ftdi converter, so I can try to make the cable.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: MTH800 Erased Flash
Nope. No diagram exists of FLN9636.
As said previously, don't erase flash in radios you don't plan to use as a doorstop.

This is a tutorial done by a German, which is very detailed
hbaar.com – ******** MTP850 PEI-Adapter USB
(You will also need to change *********** in the link to the M brand name with initial capitalization for proper access or it will 404).

Just to clarify. This article is about accessing PEI interface and has nothing to do with reflashing mth800.

Re: MTH800 Erased Flash
The situation is much simpler than you think. As my friend Rangerpro d said:
The programming cable is suitable for programming and data transfer.
Flash writing requires a Flash cable, other types are not suitable for this purpose.
Although the Depot software has several types of flash writing functions, the process will not take place without the appropriate flash cable.
Unfortunately, the very rare and very expensive FLN9636 will fail without a cable.
The biggest problem is having to retune the radio.
This can be avoided if the codeplug has been saved.
The MT Flasher software was created by Mr Ivo Baradic from Croatie, Zadar (fmdream.net) around 2010, so I recommend you to run it under Windows XP.
M0t0r0la MT Flasher, original version:

M0t0r0la MT Flasher v1.3, later version from 2011:

Does anyone have version 2.0?
Download links are active for 24 hours.
Of course, all this is not necessary if we do not use depot software (without adequate knowledge and competence) and do not use the erase radio function.

Re: MTH800 Erased Flash
Hi to all and thanks again.
I've downloaded the flasher.
The codeplug of the radio was backupped before erasing flash, so I think if I found or make the cable, I can try to restore it.
I'll write You how it will be go...
Thanks.
