CQI optimisation
Hi guys,
What have you done in your network to improve the CQI and to get rid of mainly the QPSK samples ? We have around 10% samples in our network for QPSK and planning to improve this with optimisation of the most affected cell which will of-course include physical optimisation but I would like to know if there are features that you have tried in your network or tuning of those existing features that have helped in improving CQI at macro level ?

Re: CQI optimisation
Here are some strategies that can be implemented to improve CQI and reduce the percentage of QPSK samples in a network:
- Cell Site Optimization:a. Antenna Optimization: Ensure proper antenna placement, tilt, and aiming to minimize signal interference and maximize coverage.b. Interference Mitigation: Identify and mitigate sources of interference, such as adjacent cell towers, other wireless devices, or physical obstructions.
- a Power Control: Adjust transmit power levels to ensure adequate signal strength without causing excessive interference.
d. Retransmission Control: Employ adaptive retransmission techniques to improve signal reliability and reduce the likelihood of QPSK modulation. - Link Adaptation:a. Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) Selection: Dynamically select the most appropriate MCS based on channel conditions to optimize data throughput and reduce the need for QPSK modulation.
b. Hybrid Automatic Retransmission (HARQ): Utilize HARQ to retransmit data packets that experience errors, improving overall link reliability and reducing QPSK usage. - Network Optimization:a. Load Balancing: Distribute traffic across cells to prevent congestion and maintain acceptable CQI levels.
b. Capacity Planning: Ensure adequate network capacity to handle the expected traffic load, reducing the need for QPSK modulation. - User Equipment (UE) Optimization:a. UE Positioning: Encourage UEs to move to areas with stronger signal strength and better CQI.
b. UE Capabilities: Consider the capabilities of UEs and adjust network parameters accordingly to optimize performance for different UE types. - Physical Optimization:a. Site Selection: Strategically place cell sites to minimize signal attenuation and maximize coverage.
b. Antenna Placement: Use high-gain antennas and directional antennas to focus signal towards target areas and reduce interference.
