    Had the same issue and it just came good. Sorry, never figured out why. Could have been windows restarts and application restarts.
    I do notice Bing maps are very slow to download/draw.

    It may depend on the version of mapinfo, but try:
    Home > Open > Table > Select Raster
    And choose your asc file.
